Mortuary Walkthrough

- You wake up & Morte flies towards you & starts talking. Search trough the room to pickup a scalpel & some bandages. Once you pickup the scalpel Morte talks to you again. Treat him the way you want, but knows that your behavior towards your teammates (like your behavior towards anybody in the game) will affect their morale & your alignement. Now you can talk to the zombies on the left side of the room. Two of them have bandages you can pickup if you kill them, one has the key you need to exit the room. You'll need to kill at least that last one. Try all doors & you will find the exit to the room. Morte talks to you again.

- Now talk to the all the zombies and search all this second room through. Then go up & enter the third one. Search the room to find a book & some items. Two of the zombies here are special : you can steal bandages from one of them (through dialogue) and get a piece of paper from the other one if you have the scalpel. You can "use" it in your inventory screen. That piece of paper is a puzzle : pay attention to the contract number & to the number of marks on the corners of the note. Flip the corners in the order given by the contract number, and you'll get a new item : an earring. This one must be identified, wich will be done later. Now talk to the old-timer dustman beside that giant book. His name is Dhall, and you'll learn quite a bit from him about yourself & the Dustmens. If you have 13 Intelligence or more you can learn a bit more from him. Go to the next room. Nothing great there, just a zombie from wich you can steal a piece of paper (a page wich was missing to the tome you found earlier). Step forward to the next room.

- Here search all through to get some items. Talk to the zombies : one of them will drop an arm wich you can use as a club, through a dialogue affecting your alignment. You can get a needle from another one if you have the scalpel. Now talk to that "dustwoman", Ei-Vene. She won't hear you in the first place, & you'll have to catch her attention by insisting. She'll take your for a zombie and order you to go get her a needle & some embaulming fluid. Finish the conversation & talk to her again. Watch her working, and you'll remind something about a skeleton in wich you seemed to have put an item. Go to the next room.

- Talk to the zombie and he'll be surprised & say something : that's enough to realize he isn't a real zombie. The dialog with him can be quite different depending on what you will say. The success of threatening depends on your Strength & Charisma I guess. You can force him to talk a bit by threatening to call the guards, but if you go too far he'll attack you or won't answer anymore. You can get Morte to make a supposition on who is his, & will get a dialog affecting your alignment towards Law or Chaos. You can also ask the guy about how to escape from the mortuary. You can threaten him again or help him a bit to have him tell you what he knows. If you decide to help him you'll just have to go and ask Ei-Vene to give you a key. By mimicing a bit she'll understand what you mean and give it to you. Now Vaxis (that's his name) wiil tell you about a "portal" wich opens only if you have some kind of skeleton finger & you'll gain some exp. You can also ask him about Pharod & about how he disguised himself into a zombie. If you bring him a needle & some embaulming fluid he can disguise you into a zombie too. Now step into the next room.

- Search the room through & you'll get two pots of embauming fluid. Since you most probably have a needle, I recommend going to see Ei-Vene first before Vaxis disguises you into a zombie. Give Ei-Vene what she wanted and she'll start working on the corpse before her. Wait. Now she'll start working on you. If you push her back, she'll realize you're not a zombie & kinda shout for alarm. You'll have the entire mortuary go hostile towards you. Better to let her work on you : you'll get a +1 bonus to max HP! I assume that's what you'll do of course. Head back to the room where you found embaulming fluid. There's a locked shelf. You can force it by attacking it. There's an earring inside. You can "use" it in your inventory to see it's kind of weird. Now, since the door to the next room is locked, take the stairs to the upper level.

- Just search a bit around you without talking to anyone for now. You should find another needle. Go back downstairs and have Vaxis disguise you into a zombie. You gain some exp. Now be careful : if you run, your disguise will wear off. This disguise is useful only if you have less than 13 Dexterity. If not, be patient, and walk in order to keep it. Else you can run and get rid of it. Go back upstairs. Talk to one of the dustmens. If you aren't disguised, you can learn a bit from them, but you'll need at least 13 Intelligence or Wisdom to be able to convince him to let you go (and you'll need to choose the right sentences, or he will sound the alarm). You can also break his neck if you have at least 13 Dex. If you try to break his neck without having 13 Dex, you fail and he sounds the alarm. I recommend breaking his neck since he will drop his robe, and thus you'll be able to disguise in a dustman. If you haven't got 13 dex, then you should come to him while disguised into a zombie to be able to take him by surprise & break his neck. Now I'll assume you're wearing a dustman robe.

- There's a skeleton circling around the hole in the middle of the map. Talk to him and you'll recognize he is the one in wich you had hidden something. Cross your arms & follow the dialog to gain some items & exp. Now go in the little room by the south of this huge dome. Search it through to get items (you have to force a shelf again). One of the zombies has a strange carving on him wich makes you think about that earring you found earlier. Use the earring again and you'll be able to "unlock" it, thus you'll be able to gain more money by selling it later. If you talk the skeleton Morte will ask you to find him a body. You can dismantle the skeleton if you have 13 str or a crowbar to gain items but as far as I know it's completely useless (items are junk & you gain no exp). Now search the shelf near the room to the left of the dome to find a key. That key can open all locked doors in the mortuary. Talk to another dustman or dustwoman and you can get some info. They might get suspicious about you if you screw up a bit but as long as you're wearing a dustman robe they won't sound the alarm. You can lie to them & say your name is "Adahn". Tip : saying it many times in the game can get you a cool surprise. You can get other items by looking at zombies and skeletons and by searching all shelves & desks in the dome. The Bone Charm (wich is the item you need to open the portal Vaxis told you about) is in a locked desk to the north. Once you're done, head back downstairs, whether by the East or West stairway.

- You can tell Dhall about Vaxis if you wish. You gain some exp and it makes Vaxis disappear when you exit the map. It also most probably affects your alignment. You can also visit the room wich was locked to the south of this map, now that you have the key. There's nothing great in there though. Head downstairs either by the west or the east, but for my convenience, I'll assume you took the east stairway ok?

- Now you've finally reached the floor level of the mortuary. There are many things to do here. A zombie near the east stairway has a book you can take from him through dialog. The book can prove useful so take it. You can talk to dustmens but won't learn anything great. The one to the south, called Soego, is cool though : if you can convince him, he'll unlock the main door for you. Don't try breaking his neck if he seems to realize you're not a dustman, he won't sound the alarm. The center of this map is an area in wich you'll find 4 giant skeletons. Be careful with them or they'll go hostile. If you have 16 Intelligence or more you can study their armor & the runes on it, wich will remind you what they are. Then you'll gain some exp & be able to destruct the skeletons trough dialogue, gaining more exp & some items usuable by a mage to learn spells. If you haven't got 16 Int then the book you stole from the zombie on this same level can do the trick, but you'll gain a bit less exp. Also, asking Morte about those skeletons as a possible body for him may improve his morale. You can find an axe in this center room on a kind of rack.

- Last thing to do on this level, and surely the most important one, is talk to the ghost in the northwest section of the map. She's named Deionarra, and she recognizes you. She calls you "my love" and you can learn many things from her. Be careful, if you treat her bad she'll curse you and won't talk to you anymore unless you have something like 13 charisma and int. I don't how the curse affects the game. Aniway it's better not to get cursed. She can make some kind of prophecy, and she can also talk to you about yourself, & you can remind your ability to raise the dead (you gain the ability to cast raise dead 3 times per day & earn exp). She is the one who learns you that your immortality is indeed something bad since each of your deaths has taken away a part of you & your spirit, and if it goes on like this, you'll eventually be nothing more than a brainless immortal zombie wandering around, no different from the "employees" of the mortuary... Makes you think twice about immortality huh? The dialog with her affects your aligment quite a bit, depending on if you vow or not, if you lie or not, etc. Also if you have 13 Wisdom you'll be able to somewhat guess what isn't a good idea to tell her (helps to avoid the curse). She can also tell you about the portal Vaxis told you about, wich will earn you some exp. After this, all you have to do is exit the mortuary, whether by the portal if you have the key (the bone charm), or by the main door if Soego unlocked it. Exiting through the portal will take you to a place where you can rest, & you'll also find some money & an evidence there if you told Dhall about Vaxis.

Now you will discover what the city of Sigil truly is, and start roaming across the Hive, talking to everyone, learning more about yourself, trying to find Pharod & your Journal... Good luck.
